Exit poll indicates victory for António José Seguro

Lisbon, 08 Feb, 2026 — Exit polls released by Portuguese broadcaster RTP, based on projections prepared with Universidade Católica, indicate a strong lead for Socialist candidate António José Seguro in the country’s presidential runoff, suggesting he is on course to win the election.

According to the exit-poll projection, Seguro is estimated to have received between 68% and 73% of the vote, while far-right candidate André Ventura is projected at between 27% and 32%.

The same projection estimates abstention between 42% and 48%, indicating moderate participation levels in the second round.

More than 11 million voters were eligible to vote in the election, which followed a first round held on 18 January in which Seguro led the field and Ventura finished second, setting up the runoff.

Voting day proceeded largely without major incidents, although severe weather affected several regions and required special arrangements in some municipalities and isolated communities.

Exit polls are preliminary estimates, and official results are expected later tonight as ballots are counted across the country.
